Compatibility

Designed for supported 18V lithium-ion tool battery packs.

PackGauge is not a universal battery tester. Hardware and firmware revisions vary, so visual similarity alone cannot guarantee communication or data availability.

ON THE BENCH

What development testing has shown.

18V Red Tool Packs. These are examples from packs read during development, not a guarantee for every pack of the same capacity. Internal revisions and the reader’s interface affect the result.

Observed samples · capacity alone does not identify a revision
Pack sampleObserved dataLimits to know
3AhCell readings, discharge totals, and recorded load history.Discharge totals and the current-history chart were cross-checked on the observed revision.
5AhThe observed newer revision communicated, but much of its recorded history was unavailable. Some statistics returned blank records. Do not assume the full set of history screens will be populated.
6AhCharge counts and charging time were available on a nearly new sample.Several fault, load-history, and condition records were still unwritten.
12AhIdentity, cell-bank readings, dates, and high-level charge and discharge records.Three observed samples did not expose the older fault, load-history, or condition blocks.

A missing history field is different from a pack that cannot communicate. Other revisions and capacities remain unverified unless confirmed through testing.

01

What the scanner asks for.

The scanner requests identity, cell-bank readings, and other diagnostic records through the supported pack interface. Charge counts and times, discharge totals, fault counters, current/load histograms, and charge conditions are only shown where the connected pack exposes them.

Missing data stays unavailable. It is not turned into a reassuring zero.

02

Revision matters.

Different internal revisions can exist inside packs that look nearly identical from the outside. Connector behavior, readable addresses, and recorded history can differ by firmware and electronics revision.

Compatibility therefore means “known to communicate with the PackGauge interface,” not “every data field is guaranteed to exist.”

03

Newer firmware may expose less history.

Some supported packs provide core identity, cell-bank readings, dates, and high-level charge/discharge totals while omitting older fault, load-histogram, or charge-condition blocks.

An unavailable field is not evidence that an event did not occur.

04

How to read the language.

Observed
Returned by the connected pack during a scan.
Calculated
Derived from observed values, such as cell-bank voltage spread.
Unavailable
The expected data block was not exposed; it is not replaced with zero.

Compatibility does not imply safety, authentication, capacity, health, warranty status, or fitness for use. Review the safety and diagnostic limits before scanning.
